Nic Fiddean Green

The spirit and power of this noble servant and master to man - the horse- has been a long term obsession for artist, Nic Fiddian-Green, who only sculpts horses’ heads.
Working from his studio in Godalming in Surrey, Nic has produced sculptures which have been exhibited in major galleries and art fairs in Paris, New York, Sydney, Hong Kong and Dubai, to name a few. And his next exhibition entitled ‘Recent Sculpture’ comes to both Sladmore Galleries in the West End of London in June this year.
You can see his sculptures for yourself at some of the country’s big racecourses – Goodwood and Royal Ascot – or take a trip to Marble Arch in London so see a replica of this sculpture ‘Horse Drinking’ (pictured right when it was on display at Glyndebourne Opera House in Sussex).
Some say Nic’s recent battle with a life-threatening illness has made his work stronger and deeper, showing us how his spirit and faith have helped him stay strong and triumph over the physical barriers. His work is often described as powerful, spiritual and emotional. And it’s the spirit and power of one of the most noble animals on the planet that triggered Nic’s obsession with horses.  Nicky Moffat - Horse & Rider

Mat Collinshaw; Insecticide

Insecticide, 2009

Mat Collishaw’s (b. 1966) art envelops us in a twilight world poised between the alluring and the revolting, the familiar and the shocking, the poetic and the morbid. With a visual language embracing diverse media, the beauty of Collishaw’s work draws us in – seductive, captivating, hypnotic – only to more forcefully repel us as we perceive the darker fantasies within. A repulsion triggered not by what we see, but by our innate response to it.
Pornography, the crucifixion, gleaming fairies, syphilitic child prostitutes, bestiality, bondage, addiction, religion, exaltation and despair, even the final hours of a death-row inmate. There is seemingly no taboo left unbroken, no dark corner Collishaw is unwilling to explore – and yet, the work is utterly romantic, exquisitely beautiful, an expression of Collishaw’s wish to “create images that are awe-inspiring”.

snapshot

The above images are from the notorious and well-acclaimed American photographer Richard Mousse's latest series, INFRA. Named precisely after the Infra Red Camera he used to distort or confuse the notion between the good and the bad. These aesthetically pleasing, alluring and fantastical images actually depict the bloody warfare of the Congo, Africa. It’s amazing what you can learn from a snapshot.
